Application
N-Halosaccharin Usable for Halogenations

Experimental procedure: 1 (142 mg, 0.5 mmol) and LiClO4 (32 mg, 0.3 mmol) are dissolved in CH3CN (10 mL). The reaction mixture is stirred at room temperature for 15 min. N-Chlorosaccharin (0.55 mmol) is added and stirring is continued for an additional 30 min. After removal of the solvent, the residue is dissolved in CH2Cl2 (10 mL), washed with strd. aq. NaHCO3 (3 x 10 mL), dried over Na2SO4, filtered and the solvent is evaporated in vacuo. The solid is suspended in CH3OH (4 mL) and, to remove the unwanted saccharin, undissolved pure product is filtered to obtain 2 (148 mg, 93% yield).
