Application
Bexarotene: A Selective Retinoid X Receptor (RXR) Agonist

Retinoids are biological active analogs of vitamin A, which play essential roles in embryonic or adult cell behavior modulating cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis. Bexarotene, a synthetic retinoid known as LGD1069, selectively binds to and activates retinoid X receptors (RXRs). Thereby, bexarotene induces change in gene expression that lead to cell differentiation, decreased cell proliferation, apoptosis of some cancer cell types, and tumor regression. Recently, bexarotene has been reported that it acts to reduce harmful β-amyloid protein which has been suspected as a key contributor to Alzheimer’s disease.
