Although many groups have made attempts to synthesize fullerenes by organic synthesis, the approaches need many steps and have extremely low yields. Otero
et al. have reported the synthesis of the C60 precursor, C60H30 polyarene from
Truxene. Moreover, Otero
et al. have verified by using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) that the C60H30 can be completely transformed into C60 by annealing on platinum surface. This approach is expected to allow the efficient production of a range of fullerenes.
