Application
Tropisetron hydrochloride: A Selective Competitive 5-HT3 Receptor Antagonist

Tropisetron hydrochloride is a selective competitive antagonist of 5-hydroxytryptamine 3 (5-HT3) receptor which is a subclass of serotonin receptors. 5-HT3 receptors are located peripherally on vagal nerve terminals and centrally in the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) of the area postrema, known as the emetic center of the brain. Therefore, tropisetron is used for the prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting.1,2) Tropisetron is mainly metabolized by cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2D6.3) In 2000’s, it has been reported that tropisetron is also a selective partial agonist at α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (α7nAChRs). 4,5) (The product is for research purpose only.)
